God's Lens: Legacy of a US Marine War Photographer ( Kamisama no Faindah )

Kimiko Sakai, Joe O'Donnell, photos

Joe O’Donnell (Joseph Roger O’Donnell), (1922- 2007), was "an American photographer who documented the effects of the nuclear bombing in 1945 of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in images that conveyed the widespread devastation." (Britannica) After the war he worked for the US Information Agency and photographed US presidents. This book is written by his Japanese wife, herself an artist, who shares his faith and his photos. It was during a recovery of his faith while at a spiritual retreat that Joe saw a sculpture entitled "ONCE" of a man on a cross with burned skin that was made to honor the victims of the atomic blasts of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Joe then remembered his photos that he had locked in a trunk and decided God wanted him to use them to urge we never use nuclear weapons again. Forest Books. A5 size, 192 pp.
